Hire an RBS-certified bartender in San Diego — La Jolla cliff houses, Coronado backyards, Gaslamp lofts. Bartender-only or full mobile bar. Dry hire. All-inclusive from $795.
San Diego's private-bartender market is dictated by three things most hosts find out mid-planning: the city's glass-on-beach ban, the resort-exclusive bar policy at the big oceanfront hotels, and the vacation-rental ownership rules that got stricter after 2023. Clients who book us without knowing these show up on event day with the wrong glassware, the wrong venue, or a surprise fine from the HOA. We built an SD-specific checklist to kill those three problems before they show up on your invoice.
Glass first. San Diego Municipal Code 56.54 prohibits glass on all public beaches inside city limits — Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, La Jolla Shores, Coronado Beach. If your event is on the sand we bring crystal-look acrylic stemware and footed polycarbonate rocks glasses that photograph like real crystal. For bluff-edge private residences (Sunset Cliffs, Point Loma, La Jolla Farms) we go back to real glass because the ban ends at the sand line.
The resort layer matters because a lot of first-time SD clients assume they can bring us into Hotel del Coronado, L'Auberge Del Mar's main ballroom, or the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Most big-brand SD oceanfront resorts run exclusive in-house bars. Our outside-vendor work lands at Scripps Seaside Forum (UCSD), Loews Coronado Bay (approved outside caterers list), La Jolla Woman's Club, Thursday Club in Point Loma, Mt. Woodson Castle in Ramona, and private estates. We tell couples which of their shortlist venues work with us before they sign a venue contract.
Vacation rentals are the third layer and the one with the most new rules. The city's STR (Short-Term Residential Occupancy) ordinance that went live in 2023 requires licensed hosts, with limits on guest count and quiet hours. Many La Jolla, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach rentals now contractually ban events over 15 people, and some have on-site decibel monitors. If your Airbnb is under STR, we help the host confirm the party is allowed before the booking goes final.
Here's where our San Diego calendar actually runs — the venues on file and the neighborhoods we drive weekly:
Three all-inclusive tiers. Each tier covers the bartenders, the glassware program (acrylic for beach, crystal everywhere else), the ice program, premium mixers, fresh-cut garnish, printed cocktail menu, setup and breakdown, and the California ABC compliantCOI on request. The alcohol is on you — retail, in your name — which is why this costs less than a hotel package.
Travel inside San Diego County is included in every quote. These are the neighborhoods and cities most of our SD calendar runs through:
Every SD bartender-for-hire booking is a full-service engagement — no bartender-only tricks that forget the ice program. The number you see on the quote is the number you pay.
Yes. If your condo in Little Italy has a built-in bar, your La Jolla rental has a wet bar, or your venue already has a bar top, we can send a bartender-only crew with glassware, mixers, garnish and the ice program. Intimate starts at $795 for 30–60 guests over three hours.
Every bartender on a La Barra booking carries current California RBS certification. We also carry California ABC compliance and California ABC compliance, and issue COIs in the venue's name on request. We have been pre-approved at Scripps Seaside Forum, L'Auberge Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe private estates, and most La Jolla and Point Loma residential clubs.
The city of San Diego bans glass containers on public beaches under Municipal Code 56.54 — Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, La Jolla Shores. For events on those beaches we switch to crystal-look acrylic stemware and footed polycarbonate rocks glasses. For bluff weddings, private estates, and anywhere off the sand we use real glass.
The week of a major convention or event at the San Diego Convention Center, hotel bar packages roughly double and inventory tightens. Our packages stay the same — what changes is lead time: book four to six weeks ahead of Comic-Con or SDCC-adjacent dates to lock a crew. Short-notice requests the week of are fine if we still have availability.
Weddings: six to nine months out, especially for La Jolla or Coronado peak season (May through October). Birthday parties and corporate events: three to six weeks is usually fine. Short notice is possible — text and we respond within the hour.
Tell us the venue, the headcount and the date and you will have a real price the same day — not a brochure, not a callback next week.
