03. What is dry hire, and why is it legal in California? · 2:28

Under California ABC guidelines a private host may legally buy alcohol at retail for their own private event and hire bartenders to serve it. The alcohol belongs to the host. La Barra Co. never sells it, marks it up or profits from it — we provide the labor, equipment and service. Every bartender holds a current California RBS certification, verifiable through the state ABC.

04. How many bartenders do I need for my guest count? · 3:25

Roughly one bartender per 50 guests for a standard event — that's how La Barra Co.'s packages are built. 30–50 guests: 1 bartender. 60–100: 2. 100–150: 2 at a double service point. 150–200: 3 with a 12-foot double bar. A heavy cocktail menu, guests arriving all at once, or an all-night open bar each push you up a tier.

05. How far in advance should I book a mobile bar? · 4:19

4 to 8 weeks is ideal for weekend dates at La Barra Co., especially May through October, which is peak season in Southern California. Weekday and off-season events are usually comfortable with 2 to 3 weeks. Last-minute bookings are accepted when the calendar allows, but menu options narrow. For weddings, book as soon as you have the venue and date.

Most Southern California venues ask for vendor paperwork before a bar service works on site. Ask your venue what they need at the 30-day mark.

08. What about guests who don't drink? · 6:38

Every La Barra Co. package includes a full non-alcoholic option built with the same fresh-pressed juices, house syrups and garnish program as the cocktails. Tell us roughly how many non-drinkers you expect and we scale mixer quantities accordingly. For fully dry events we run the entire bar as a zero-proof program at the same package rates.

09. Mobile bar, bartender-only, or the caterer's bar? · 7:30

Bartender-only is cheapest and fits a venue with a built-in bar. A caterer's bar package is most expensive because alcohol markup is built into the per-person price. A full mobile bar like La Barra Co. fits when there is no bar at the venue and you want everything handled, with the alcohol bought at retail by you. A bar-cart rental alone in LA runs $350–$600 a day.
