01 / About Our LA Service

The Best Mobile Bar in Los Angeles

La Barra Co. is a Los Angeles-based mobile bar and bartending service, built for the city's most particular hosts. We're a recently launched, founder-run operation — which means our founder the founder personally oversees every LA event, from the initial menu design to the final cocktail poured at midnight. No middlemen, no lost details, no bartenders who don't care.

Los Angeles is the most competitive event market in the country, and the bar is often what separates a memorable night from a forgettable one. Long lines, warm drinks, uninspired menus — the classic hallmarks of a bad event bar — happen because most caterers treat the bar as an afterthought. We don't. The bar is our entire craft.

Our dry-hire model was built for LA hosts who want great cocktails without the 300% catering markup on liquor. You buy the alcohol at retail (from Total Wine, K&L in Hollywood, or any spot you like — many accept returns on unopened bottles), and we bring the bartenders, portable bar setup, premium mixers, fresh garnish, ice program, glassware and menu design. Everything except the bottles.

Typical LA Venue Types We Set Up At

Los Angeles has more unusual venue configurations than any city in America. We've built our kit specifically for LA's realities — narrow driveways, tight elevators, rooftops without water access, backyards with a single outlet. Common LA venue types we specialize in:

  • DTLA lofts & industrial spaces — Arts District, South Park, Historic Core. Our bar collapses to fit passenger elevators.
  • Hollywood Hills & Laurel Canyon homes — Deck setups, hillside pool decks, cliffside backyards.
  • Rooftop bars in DTLA / Hollywood — Full portable setup for buildings without in-house bar service.
  • Venice, Mar Vista, Culver residential — Backyard birthdays, garage parties, driveway cocktail hours.
  • Valley single-family homes — Sherman Oaks, Encino, Studio City backyard events.
  • Private venues & event spaces — When your venue allows outside bar service, we're the right fit.

Event Types We Handle Across LA

We focus on adult (21+) celebrations across five specialties:

  • Milestone birthday parties — 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th. LA loves a themed cocktail menu, and we design one for you.
  • Corporate events — Client dinners, product launches, holiday parties, quarterly celebrations. Fast, professional, on-brand service.
  • Private cocktail parties — Housewarmings in Silver Lake, anniversaries in Brentwood, dinner parties everywhere.
  • Backyard celebrations — Pool parties, patio hosting, sunset cocktail hours across the Westside and Valley.
  • Divorce parties & girls' nights — LA loves a proper reset. Spicy margaritas, playful menus, unforgettable nights.

Los Angeles FAQs

Do you serve mobile bar service in all of Los Angeles?

Yes. We serve every neighborhood in LA — Hollywood, Downtown, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, West Hollywood, Culver City, Venice, Mar Vista, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Encino, Brentwood, Bel Air and beyond. If your event is inside LA County, we're there.

Do you need permits for backyard events in Los Angeles?

Private residential events in LA do not require a special ABC permit when operating under a dry-hire model, as the host provides the alcohol. Commercial venues may have their own requirements — we'll help you navigate them.

Can you set up rooftop bars in DTLA high-rises?

Yes. Our portable bar setup breaks down to fit passenger elevators and is designed for rooftop, patio, indoor and outdoor spaces. We've prepped our kit specifically for LA's unique venue mix.

What's the parking situation like for your setup?

We need one street or driveway spot within 100 feet of the setup location for load-in. If your LA venue has valet or restrictive parking, tell us at booking and we'll coordinate around it.

How much does a mobile bar cost in Los Angeles?

Founding client rates start at $695 for our Intimate package — 30 to 50 guests, three hours of service. Signature runs $1,195 for 75 to 100 guests over four hours, and Grand is $2,395 for 150 to 200 guests over five hours. Whether you are in Silver Lake, Culver City or a DTLA rooftop, the instant quote calculator on our site prices your date in under a minute.

What is included in your bar package, and what is not?

We bring the bartenders, the portable bar, premium mixers, fresh garnish, a full ice program, glassware, menu design, and complete setup and breakdown. You buy the alcohol yourself at retail. Under California ABC law we never purchase, sell or transport liquor. For a Los Feliz backyard or a West Hollywood loft, that split keeps your cost honest and your bottles under your own name.

How does dry hire work for a Los Angeles event?

Dry hire means you buy the alcohol at retail in your own name — Total Wine, Costco, a Hollywood bottle shop, whatever is closest. We send you an exact shopping list by bottle count. California ABC law prohibits us from buying, selling or transporting alcohol, so the purchase stays yours and the markup most bar companies add to liquor simply disappears from your invoice.

How much alcohol should I buy for 100 guests?

For 100 guests over four hours, plan roughly 30 to 36 bottles of spirits, wine and sparkling combined, weighted toward whatever your crowd actually drinks. We send a specific list after we talk through your menu. Los Angeles hosts usually overbuy — we would rather you buy generously and return the unopened bottles the following week than run dry at hour three.

What happens to the bottles we do not open?

Most California retailers accept returns on sealed, unopened bottles with your receipt, so overbuying costs you almost nothing. We stage the bar so unopened stock stays boxed and clean, then hand it back to you at breakdown, counted. Hosts in Brentwood and Sherman Oaks routinely return several hundred dollars of untouched liquor the Monday after their event.

Do I need a liquor license or permit for a private party in Los Angeles?

No. Under California ABC rules, a private party where alcohol is free to guests and nothing is sold requires no liquor license. That covers residential events across Venice, Los Feliz and Sherman Oaks under our dry hire model. A permit is only required if alcohol is being sold. Some commercial venues have their own house rules — we help you confirm before booking.

Are your bartenders certified and insured?

Yes. Every bartender holds RBS certification, mandatory in California since July 2022, and we carry a $2 million liability policy. We can issue a certificate of insurance naming your venue as additional insured — standard practice for DTLA high-rise buildings, Culver City studios and West Hollywood event spaces that require documentation before they will approve load-in.

Can you name my Los Angeles venue as additional insured?

Yes, at no extra charge. Send us the venue's exact legal name and address and we issue the certificate of insurance, usually the same day. Most DTLA high-rises, Hollywood production spaces and Culver City venues require it seven to fourteen days before your event, so send us the request as soon as you sign the venue contract.

How many bartenders do I need for my guest count?

The industry ratio is one bartender per 50 to 75 guests, and with a full cocktail program it moves toward one per 50. Above roughly 150 guests we add a second service point and a third bartender; above 200 we add a barback. For a Hollywood Hills house where guests spread across levels, we often split the bar rather than add staff.

How far in advance should I book in Los Angeles?

Six to nine months for peak-season weddings, four to eight weeks for smaller or off-season events. Los Angeles Saturdays from May through October go first, especially in Silver Lake and West Hollywood. Text or call (415) 559-2981 and the founder answers directly — usually inside an hour, between 9am and 9pm Pacific, seven days a week.

How long does setup and breakdown take?

About 90 minutes to set up and 45 minutes to break down for a standard build. We ask for street or driveway access within 100 feet of the bar position. For DTLA rooftops the bar disassembles to fit a passenger elevator, which adds roughly 30 minutes each way — we schedule that into the arrival window so nothing runs late.

Do you need power or running water at the bar?

No. We run fully self-contained — no outlet, no hose, no sink required. We arrive with our own water for rinsing and a sealed ice program in insulated transport. That matters on Venice rooftops and Los Feliz hillside yards where the nearest outlet is three flights away. If power is available for lighting we will use it, but nothing depends on it.

Do you make custom signature cocktails?

Yes. We build two to four signature drinks around your story, then design the printed menu in English and Spanish. Couples in Silver Lake tend toward mezcal and citrus; Brentwood clients lean classic — a proper Old Fashioned, a clean martini service. We send the shopping list matched to the final menu so you buy exactly what actually pours.

Do you offer non-alcoholic options?

Yes. Every menu includes zero-proof drinks built with the same care as the cocktails — fresh citrus, house syrups, real garnish, proper glassware. No one at your Culver City or Sherman Oaks event should be holding a plastic cup of soda. Send your zero-proof count in advance and we stock accordingly. Our team serves 21 and over only, checking ID at the bar.
